Yesterday the conference was held to open the Google I / O, an opportunity for the Mountain View company to present version of Jelly Bean's Android OS and it brings some new features.
As we told you for some time now, it was yesterday, in San Francisco, Google opened the Google I / O: 3-day conference for developers. To put ourselves in the bath, the Mountain View giant has started with some big announcements: presentation of its tablet Nexus 7, a multimedia box Nexus Q, and Jelly Bean on which we are somewhat to dwell here. First thing, Android Jelly Bean will not be Android 5.0, but Android 4.1, which foreshadow minor changes.
Indeed, the interface remains the same, with some improvements of course, starting with a faster interface with "Project Butter". The operating system should run at 60 frames per second while the triple buffering should make navigation smoother, hence the name "Butter Project", by processing information three times faster than the old version. Finally, Google also announced that the new video of its software architecture should allow an increase in autonomy by anticipating where you tap the screen. To know how this is possible ... It seems that our favorite little Droid gaining insight with Jelly Bean.
A little competition for Siri
No question but Jelly Bean Project Majel still manages voice with some new features. In the manner of Siri, the improved Voice Search allows the user to "communicate" with their smartphone, naturally. It will be possible to ask questions that will give you a voice a synthetic answer, while Knowledge Graph will display an image accompanied by the most comprehensive information on the screen. A sweep of the finger, and you will find the Google search page, as if you had typed in the bar for this purpose. If further research suggests that what has his counterpart at Apple, the system is not a wizard and is confined to research on the internet. It can interact with other applications. So it is impossible to schedule an appointment or ask him to send a message to a contact.
Google also provides the voice input offline. If it was previously necessary to have a data connection to take advantage of this feature, you can now dictate your messages without having to worry about the quality of your network reception thanks to the Voice Typing keyboard integrated into Android. Only English is supported for now, but other languages will soon be supported.
Finally, Now with Google, you will not have any secrets. No worries, if Google can invade your privacy, it is only in order to serve you. By gathering all the information at its disposal: geographic location, time, calendar, search history ... your whole life in fact, your smartphone will then take on the appearance of wizard. If you find yourself at the airport for example, it will automatically display information on upcoming trips, boarding gates and delays. If you are looking for your favorite team score of the day, need him mention the name of that team since will remember through your history.
More with the notifications
If the notification system has always been one of the strengths of the operating system of Google, Apple quickly tried to match him in endorsing the sauce. But the student is still far exceed the master since it comes again to make some very significant improvements. In addition, it will now be accessible via a gesture with two fingers, no need to go get in the top of the screen. Henceforth, it will also take precedence over other applications. It will for example be possible to call back a notification directly from you reporting a missed call. Or it will be possible to directly read an email from the flap down, and even respond with a pre-recorded message without opening the Gmail application.
We also find widgets "smart" on the home screen. No need to break the head from the menu of widgets to choose between different sizes available. The widget should now automatically adapt to their environment. They will also be easier to remove.
A photo application review
The photo application also welcomes some new features. Not very useful, we find among them the ability to view photos already taken into aim mode and deleting images by a simple movement of fingers.
Finally, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean scheduled to arrive in mid-July on Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S and Motorola Xoom tablet via an update OTA (Over The Air). Meanwhile, developers have already been able to get their hands on the beta version of the OS, so we should soon find demo videos around the web.
