Outlook.com: migrating from Hotmail complicated for Windows Phone
Application - If your smartphone WP7 is configured with a Hotmail address, it is strongly advised not to modify outlook.com. At the risk of having to reset the terminal.
Microsoft took an important turn with its new webmail Outlook.com, supposed to eventually replace Hotmail. Redmond is thus clearly the hegemony of Google with GMail and intends to pass before him.
The publisher may first rely on the huge installed base of Hotmail Outlook.com to take off. It is also very simple to switch to another account or to a Hotmail address adresse@outlook.com without losing any data.
Still, this simplicity is less obvious from a Windows Phone. If it is configured with a Hotmail address (usually as an identifier), it is not advisable to switch to an Outlook address. It appears that switching causes major malfunctions in the smartphone.
Quack
As stated in the blog MonWindowsPhone.com, users have done this have found "unable to receive new email, to download an application on the marketplace or to connect to Skydrive".
Microsoft has also issued a warning on this point: "Maybe you should not change this email address if you used to configure Windows Phone. On your phone, the features using this address will not be operational including Marketplace, Xbox Live, SkyDrive, and other e-mail ".
So embarrassing for a product that claims to be universal and simple. Especially since it is not possible to go back! The only way to unblock the situation is completely reset the smartphone and thus lose all its data ..
"To be able to use them again on your phone, you must restore the default settings, which erases the entire contents of staff," says Microsoft.
